Optical Lenses
Our range of optical lenses includes plano-convex, double-convex, concave, meniscus, achromatic, and cylindrical lenses. Glass Perfection produces optical lenses to exact specifications for use in imaging, collimation, beam shaping, and focusing applications. Manufactured from BK7, fused silica, and other optical glasses, our lenses are polished to high surface quality and available with various coatings for enhanced performance.

Imaging
The simple lens is a single optical element that refracts inadent light to form an image. The most common simple lens forms are Plano-convex lenses, Double-convex lenses, Plano-concave lenses and Double-concave lenses. Each lense has a certain degree of power (o)
o = (n-1)(1/R1-1/R2)
Where:
o = Lens power (=1/focal length)
n = index of refraction of the lens material
R1 = radius of surface 1 of lens
R2 = radius of surface 2 of lens
(for double-convex lenses, R2 is negative)
Lens Markers Formula
o = 1 = (n-1)(1- 1) + (n-1) t
f R1 R2 n R1R2
Where:
t=lens thickness
Types of Lenses
Plano Convex Lenses
Plano Convex Lenses
Plano-convex lenses feature one flat and one outward-curved (convex) surface, making them ideal for focusing collimated light to a point or collimating diverging light from a point source. This geometry helps reduce spherical aberration when used at finite conjugates, making them a popular choice for precision optical systems.

At Glass Perfection, we commonly use plano-convex lenses as secondary focusing elements, particularly to re-focus the collimated output from our light sources. Their versatility also makes them well-suited for use in laser optics, imaging systems, and illumination setups.
We offer a wide range of plano-convex lenses in various diameters, focal lengths, and substrates, including BK7 and fused silica. Lenses can be supplied with high-quality anti-reflective (AR) coatings tailored to your wavelength requirements, ensuring optimal light transmission and system performance.

Double Convex Lenses
Double Convex Lenses
Double convex lenses—also known as biconvex lenses—have two outwardly curved surfaces and are primarily used to converge light in a wide range of optical systems. They are ideal for collecting and refocusing light from a small source, or for focusing beams where optical train length is a key consideration over spot quality.

At Glass Perfection, we manufacture double convex lenses with high dimensional accuracy and low wavefront distortion, ensuring dependable performance in precision optical assemblies. These lenses are commonly used in imaging, magnification, beam focusing, projection optics, and multi-element lens systems.
We offer double convex lenses in a variety of materials, diameters, and focal lengths, with custom options available to meet your exact specifications. Lenses can also be supplied with precision AR coatings to enhance light transmission across your desired wavelength range.

Achromatic Lenses
Achromatic Lenses
Achromatic lenses are designed to minimise chromatic aberration by combining materials with different refractive indices. They focus two or more wavelengths to the same point, making them ideal for broadband imaging and laser systems. Glass Perfection produces custom achromatic lenses in cemented or air-spaced configurations, with options for visible, UV, and IR ranges. All lenses are tested to ensure high contrast and resolution.
